Radiochemotherapy in the Management of Gastroesophageal Junction Tumours: Basic Evidences in the Neoadjuvant Setting
نویسنده
چکیده
In recent years the incidence of gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) tumors has been rapidly increasing. Many trials have investigated the role of preoperative radiochemotherapy for this specific subgroup. In past, GEJ tumors were sometimes considered either esophageal or gastric cancer, due to their anatomical location. Purpose of this paper is to elucidate the benefit of radiotherapy in combination with concurrent chemotherapy in neoadjuvant setting, reviewing the literature by the point of view of the recent classification provided for GEJ tumors. *Corresponding author: Cellini F, Cattedra of Radiation Oncology, University Campus Bio-Medico, Rome, Italy, Tel: +39-622541420; E-mail: [email protected] Received August 29, 2013; Accepted October 23, 2013; Published October 30, 2013 Citation: Cellini F, Fiore M, Mattiucci G (2013) Radiochemotherapy in the Management of Gastroesophageal Junction Tumours: Basic Evidences in the Neoadjuvant Setting. Radiotherapy for tumors of the stomach and gastroesophageal junction – a review of its role in multimodal therapy
There is broad consensus on surgical resection being the backbone of curative therapy of gastric- and gastroesophageal junction carcinoma. متن کاملThe impact of preoperative radiochemotherapy on survival in advanced esophagogastric junction signet ring cell adenocarcinoma.
BACKGROUND Signet ring cell (SRC) tumors have a worse prognosis when compared with non-SRC tumors, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy has been suggested to be an ineffective treatment strategy. Preoperative radiochemotherapy, of already proven efficacy for esophagogastric junction adenocarcinomas (EGJA), could be an alternative neoadjuvant strategy for SRC EGJA. The aim of this retrospective study wa...
